#QatarGP: Opening day at first race weekend not to plan

On the first day of practice in Qatar, Kiefer Racing’s World Championship rookie Lukas Tulovic wanted a little too much and therefore he couldn’t find his usual Rhythm.

After the successful completion of the pre-season preparations last Sunday in Losail, Lukas Tulovic obviously did imagine the start into the Qatar Grand Prix in a different way. The ambitious talent from Germany’s Baden-Württemberg hook up with himself somehow, especially during Friday evening’s second session when he didn’t want to succeed a fast lap with new tyres. Tulovic and his crew in Kiefer Racing, though, are confident that the expected improvement in comparison with last weekend’s test will come on Saturday.

Tomorrow, on Saturday, the new qualifying format for the Moto2™ class will be introduced. As seen since several years in MotoGP™, the grid position will be determined by two 15-minutes long sessions which means that the first 14 fastest riders after the three free practice session make it through Q2 in which 18 riders will go out on track for their time attack. Previously, Q1 is about the remaining for places for the second heat.

#3 Lukas TULOVIC (Kiefer Racing, KTM), FP1: P25 - 2´01.523 (5/14) / FP2: P26 - 2´00.720 (5/15)

"Of course, I can’t be satisfied with today’s outcome at the first Grand Prix. Looking at the time sheet is quite sobering in terms of our position. In addition, the lap time is the same we did during last weekend’s test here in Losail. But foremost, it’s a shame that I couldn’t put all together for a fast lap towards the end of the second session. I tried to follow someone, but I didn’t find a proper slipstream. This is a bit annoying because I waste all hard work done during this evening and I also didn’t take most of the new tyres. I was maybe a little too uptight, too."

"So tomorrow I’m going to try to just do my thing as already shown last Saturday and Sunday. In the meantime, I have already received some helpful hints about what I have to do differently. Other than that, I have to approach my tasks more relaxed and more important, with a clear mind. At this track, you just to have to roll it. That was my biggest problem today. But first and foremost, I have to find a flowing rhythm then I think, that the lap times will come as well."
