#CatalanGP: Potential not reached yet
After a difficult start into Friday morning’s FP1, Kiefer Racing and its 18-year-old Lukas Tulovic did significantly better in the afternoon.
With regard to the weather, it was also a varied start into the season’s round seven. Contrary to the forecasts, the sky was cloudy above the magnificent race complex not far from Barcelona until the early afternoon. Except for a few raindrops it remained dry all day long. Just at the time of Moto2™ class’ second free practice session, temperatures climbed to the expected values. Regardless of the conditions it was a difficult start for Lukas Tulovic. The World Championship newcomer and his technical crew in the Kiefer team had to fiddle around for a long time to adjust the overall package to his requirements. Finally, the second session of the day saw the hoped-for leap forward. Tulovic finished 28th in the combined timesheet of both Friday sessions.
#3 Lukas TULOVIC (Kiefer Racing, KTM), FP1: P30 - 1´47.509 (7/16) / FP2: P26 - 1´46.725 (7/17):
"Today, it has been shown again that the opening day during a race weekend is not one of my strongest. FP1 was a very difficult start into the weekend. We had big problems with the tyres. Dunlop brought the hardest compounds which delivers a very low grip level. Not only we’ve fought with these issues, but most of the others as well. There were also some crashes, which can be traced back to it. I also had few scary moments. Anyway, I had a hard time building up a feeling. During the second session, however, we made good progress, however, sector times were not ideal yet."
"But compared to this morning we made a big step. That's certainly positive and in terms of position we're also where we always are after the first day of practice. But the gap is still a bit too big though, we know what we'll have to do by tomorrow. We have a few ideas to improve the one or other thing with the bike. In addition, I know where is still potential in terms of my riding. So, I'm sure that we'll get closer in time for qualifying. The track feels good, it creates a lot of fun riding out there. But as said, the grip level from the tyres is really bad. But we'll get that under control as well."
