#AustrianGP: Clear direction for second day of practice in Austria
On Friday during first free practice sessions, Kiefer Racing and its rookie Lukas Tulovic had more trouble than expected with the pretty unique character of the Spielberg track.
After rainy weather in the past days, summer returned to Styria in time for round eleven’s opening day of practice training. Therefore, the first free sessions took place in hot temperatures and high humidity. The track conditions were good either. World Championship newcomer Lukas Tulovic, however, was a little surprised by the unrhythmic layout of the Red Bull Ring, which is picturesquely embedded in the hilly landscape of the Murtal.
#3 Lukas TULOVIC (Kiefer Racing, KTM Moto2), FP1: P30 - 1´32.264 (11/20) / FP2: P30 - 1´31.483 (16/16):
"To be honest, I would’ve imagined that things going to be a little easier on Friday here at Spielberg though, the first practice was a difficult start at all. After the first run we made a change to the bike and in doing so, we went in the wrong direction. The bike felt a bit nervous afterwards. For the second session we got the situation better under control. On the other hand, I had considerable difficulties on the brakes. There are a lot of hard braking points that follow each other immediately. That's why the brake gets very hot. So, I wasn't able to decelerate the bike as I wanted, and this was why I often went wide."
"We now will take a closer look at the data, where there is mainly still a need for action. In general, however, I’ve to brake a little bit later and then to open the throttle a bit earlier. That applies to all corners. From this point of view, it is clear what we have to work on for tomorrow. If we get our braking issues under control and then if we’re able to set up the bike a bit better so that it suits me a bit better, then we'll improve bit by bit tomorrow. With a fast rear wheel in addition, it goes certainly further forward."
