During Friday’s first free practice sessions, Sepang rookie Lukas Tulovic needed some laps to get grips with the massive Malaysian track.

At the opening day of the second last race of the season, rain showers in the morning didn't play into the hands of Kiefer Racing and Lukas Tulovic. Due to the high humidity in Southeast Asia, it took a long time till the track was completely dry. Wet patches in some places made it difficult for 19-year-old Lukas Tulovic to find a flowing rhythm for the challenging circuit. Fortunately, the weather remained stable throughout the day, so that the KTM rider was able to improve continuously in the second session of the day.

"Regarding to the track’s conditions this morning it wasn't easy to find my way at this huge track right away. Since it was still wet in some places at first, I had a hard time choosing the right lines. It was also hard to see whether it was still wet in some places or already dry. In addition, the track’s length with more than 5.5 kilometres was another obstacle to master and beyond that, one lap contains some very technically demanding sections as well as the track is unusually wide. It was therefore a challenge to find references."

"But after the first settling-in stages, things improved lap by lap. In the afternoon during the second session it went on like this. Our lap time is of course not yet an eye-catcher, as well as the distance to the top is still relatively big. But the riders in front of us are within one second and if we continue to improve tomorrow, we certainly can make up some places. The climatic conditions here are for my feeling even more exhausting than in Thailand four weeks ago. So, from my point of view Sepang is the most strenuous Grand Prix for human and material."
